Three-Day
Workshop at NUML: Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) and
CPEC
The focal person of the workshop, Mam Saadia Saif Niazi is going to arrange a three day workshop at NUML. It will be all related
to the present development of projects like BRI and CPEC. These two projects
are having a great significance in the present time and everyone needs to find
its proper details like what impacts will it create on Pakistan’s economy and
on infrastructure?
The conventional wisdom of trade and economic
integration of states has changed with the new dynamics of economic cooperation
at regional and global level. The forces of globalization in twenty first
century have created an economic competition among states.
Chinese New Silk Road (NSR) diplomacy came up with
its revolutionary idea of Belt and Road
initiative (BRI) trying to refurbish the
conventional relations of Old Silk Road which was a political, social, economic
and cultural link between the states of diverse cultural backgrounds. The
multifaceted values of NSR, in this way, attempt to restore the traditional
values in contemporary world politics through new narratives of NSR i.e pipelines,
roads, railways, and maritime linkages like ports.
In 2013, Chinese President came up with the idea of
“Silk Road Economic Belt” later on developed into BRI. The BRI is Chinese
acquisitions in more than 70 countries of Asia, Europe, and Africa, with an
open invitation for others to join, officially linked to President Xi Jinping's
signature foreign policy. The BRI provides a visionary blueprint for even
global economic development in the new world order. The two international
investment strategies Land-based "Silk Road Economic Belt" and
Seagoing "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" evoke China's historical
connections with the Western world to promote economic cooperation across Asia.
Complex and profound changes are taking place in the
world and the BRI offers a modern-day solution that fosters inclusive growth
and development in the 21st century. The frame work of BRI revolves around
win-win situation, which would promote common development and prosperity. BRI
would foster a road toward peace and friendship by enhancing mutual
understanding and trust, and strengthening all-around exchanges among states.
The BRI Cooperation Priorities define as five major goals i.e, policy
coordination, facilitated connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration
and people-to-people bonds. BRI consists of six vibrant economic corridors:
1.
Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCIM-EC)
2.
China-Indo-China Peninsula Economic Corridor (CICP-EC)
3.
China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor (CMR-EC)
4. New
Eurasian Land Bridge (NELB)
5.
China-Central and West Asia Economic Corridor (CCWA-EC)
6.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (C-PEC)
All corridors indicate China’s shaping and
influencing of future international relations in the coming decades covering
more than 70 states. BRI also involves countless other initiatives such as 16+1
Initiative for Cooperation between China-Central East Europe and Chinese
institutions and the Asian Investment Infrastructure Bank (AIIB).
